Curious........
Strange world Blogging. Most people run a Blog to share their passion, hobby, life, likes, dislikes, thoughts or as a day-to-day diary for the world to read. Some people vent their spleen 24/7, others perpetrate conspiracy theories, review stuff that we are interested in, display their artistic talents or their prose and poetry. You can find Blogs that cover every possible subject and all of...

Orwo Film
Seems my queued post have disappeared into the ether. Will have to re-create them later! Anyway the postman cheered me up today by bringing me a parcel fresh from Wolfen or to be correct Bitterfeld-Wolfen in Germany. It is Orwo 35mm Motion Picture film. Left to right they are: N 74 Plus - Tungsten EI 250 asa or Daylight 400 asa UN 54 - Tungsten EI 80 asa or 100 Daylight To quote: ...

Diafine Post - Follow Up
I have had an amazing response to my post on Diafine yesterday. Thank you all and thanks to Analogfilmdork who raised a point I have heard people complain of but never suffered my self. The dreaded bromide drag, well known and well documented and not just with Diafine. I mentioned that I swirl my film in the tank rather than invert/agitate that’s because when I was trained in intelligence...

Diafine - Two Bath Developer
I have two favourite developers: Diafine and Rodinal. Diafine is usable over a wide temperature range with one developing time for all films. Fast, medium and slow films can be developed simultaneously without adjustment in developing time. Diafine is unsurpassed in its ability to produce the greatest effective film speed, ultra-fine grain, maximum acutance and highest resolution. Time and...

Coffee & Soda Developer
Not sure if you want to develop your own B&W film? Can’t afford developer? Want to try something different? Have a try at Coffee developing. All you need is some instant coffee - not decaffeinated though - and common washing soda. Use water for the stop but you will need real fixer - there is nothing in the store cupboard that will do it. My friend Mark Anthony at Photo Utopia has...

Emmanuel Smague
Photograph copyright Emmanuel Smargue I first came across Emmanuel Smague on the Leica forum. He has owned an M7 and now uses an MP and Summicron 35/2 ASPH like myself. What is extraordinary about Emmanuel is he is a music teacher from Lannion, in Brittany, France. During his school holidays he was able to “indulge his passion for photography.” Good interview with Emmanuel ...

David Eustace
John Hurt by David Eustace. Copyright David Eustace. A photographer who I admire, for his portraits, is David Eustace. There is just something about them that works for me. From his site biog: “David Eustace was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1961. His simple and no nonsense portraits seem reflective of his life’s experiences, prior to being a photographer he served with HM Royal Navy...

Wedding Photography
When my eldest daughter got married I resolutely said no to doing the wedding photos, instead I paid a good pro to do it. Why? Well I wanted to enjoy the day as a happy father and just shoot casually as and when I wanted to and get the shots that were not posed or constructed. It is one job I could not do and I admire the real pros who make a living from it - they deserve it. Unfortunately...

Weston Master Exposure Meter
Following the post a featuring my exposure meters I had a few emails about the Weston Master and whether they were worth buying as they are now getting on in years and would probably be way off in terms of their calibration and the selenium cell. I suppose the first thing is they can be picked up easily from many sources very cheaply and in working condition. In their day Westons were rather...
